Congratulations to the Grantham racketball second team who beat league leaders Metheringham 3rd team last night. Rich Fawcett Jones was first on and beat Jason Brown 11-7, 11-5, 11-6. This reversed his loss to Jason in the previous fixture and so Rich had clearly thought about tactics. damian Mcentegart found Simon Fenwick too strong and lost 7-11, 5-11, 6-11. Stan Wisden clinched the match overall with an emphatic 11-2, 11-0, 11-3 win against Paula Batchelor. Metheringham were a very friendly team and we look forward to playing them twice more. Next up is Eastgate at home at 7.30 Thursday 27th July. Everton (in the Europa league) should be shown on BT sport at the club that night so come down and you'll be spoilt for choice about which cracking match to watch! ... See MoreSee Less

Our racket ball first team hosted Spalding tonight. A win would keep the team at the top of the table. Mark Truman went on at our no.3 seed against Garry Harrison, a close first game saw Mark edge it 13-11. The game was being played at a fast pace, a neck and neck 2nd game was had but again Mark came up the better. 11-4 to Mark gave the team the lead. Our no.1 saw Martin Gibson step up to swap the longer version of a racket (squash) to the shorter version (racket ball....or squash 57). Martin's opponent was Clyde Finch and they had both met each other last season. The game was played with a lot of thought, with skill and precision dominating over pace, great to watch. Martin took the first two games 11-7, 11-8 with a close third game, again to Martin 14-12. Nigel Truman went on last at no.2 seed against Gary Slator. Although Ray M encouraged Nigel to top up with green tea before the match, Nigel declined. This and a great display from Gary saw Gary take the first match 11-9. Nigel dug deep in a very close 2nd game, Nigel taking it 11-7. A surge of 9 straight points from Nigel made it 2-1 to Grantham. 11-8 in the last game to Grantham made it a win.

It leaves us top at the top of the table at the half way stage, a long way to go and there are teams that are very close to us.

Well played Spalding tonight and to our racket ball team.

last night saw Grantham racketball second team reverse their recent loss at Horncastle. Grantham won by the score of two matches to 1. Richard Fawcett-Jones beat Andrew Simpson 12-10, 11-9, 11-5. Peter banks making his debut for the team found Jason Tingle just too strong losing 10-12, 4-11, 7-11. Stan Wisden had his first win beating Lynne hannan by 3 games to 1 (11-2, 11-5, 7-11, 11-3). Well done to the team from the captain who was AWOL at Wimbledon! After two close matches with Horncastle now we look forward to the next tussle at their gaff on 2nd August ... See MoreSee Less
